Rascal Animal Hospital in Dublin, Ohio evaluated Xena's injury and found a fracture of the right femur (upper part of hind leg, between hip and knee). This was a compound fracture, which means the bone protruded through the skin, greatly heightening the chance for infection.
After several hours of surgery on January 31, Xena's fracture was stabilized, and she is now recuperating in the vet hospital where she remains under observation. It appears that Xena tolerated the surgery well, and is doing nicely.
Barbara has done a great job of making contact with organizations focused on the Labrador Retriever, in the process she managed to secure a few commitments for some financial support to help pay for Xena's ongoing medical treatment Lake Erie Labrador Retriever Rescue, Inc. would like to spread the word about this need among our supporters, and request that they contribute whatever they may be able to give. No amount is too small!
Donations should be sent directly to: Rascal Animal Hospital, 5830 Britton Parkway, Dublin, OH 43016. Checks can be sent to the attention of Melissa Poff, Hospital Manager. It will help the hospital keep track of these donations if you will include a note, indicating that the funds are for XENA Account #5789.
